What to Expect When you Arive into a BOP Prison Facility

  1. When a Federal prisoner finally is taken from the Federal jail to a Federal prison, the very first thing the BOP does is immediately confiscate "all" medications the prisoner was using in jail. If a Federal prisoner is self surrendering the BOP will immediatelytake all medication the prisoner may have brought with them.
  2. The prisoner will then be interviewed by what the BOP calls a Physician's Assistant (PA). This person usually cannot speak, or understand English very well. Is usually not licensed as a PA within any state in the United States, while some PA's can barely write English.
  3. The PA will prescribe medication that the BOP authorizes, in what the BOP calls, their formulary. The BOP says that what the PA prescribes for the "new prisoner", for substitute medication, is overseen by their medical doctor. If the BOP tells a prisoner, or their family, that what a PA prescribes is overseen by the BOP's doctor, would for the most part, be a lie. Usually, the BOP doctor is a person that the BOP titled a medical doctor, however is NOT licensed, or board certified by any state within the 50 states of the United States.
  4. Usually the substitute medication prescribed by the PA is inferior to the medication the prisoner is using when they enter the BOP. The BOP purchases the cheapest possible medication for prisoners. Whether it works, or not for the prisoner is totally immaterial. The only time the BOP will provide medication that is not in their formulary is if it is proved that a prisoner has a life-threatening condition. More about this subject is under Medical Treatment In The BOP Kills Prisoners and under Torture And Death Camps Across The US.
  5. Once the prisoner is through his medical review by the PA, there is a 90% chance the prisoner will be placed in the hole immediately. This is standard operating procedure at most all BOP prisons across the United States. There are two reasons the BOP does this.
    1. So each prisoner can get a taste of what the hole is like. Kind of a shock treatment so to speak. If the prisoner doesn't follow the rules, or a BOP employee doesn't like the prisoner; the prisoner will now know, what they are going to receive; time in the hole.
    2. Many Federal prisons are so overcrowded there is no bed space available in the prisoner housing units. This due to the fact the prisons already have prisoners sleeping in TV rooms, hallways and on cots, so the prisoner must go to the hole as the prison has no other place to put them.
  6. The hole is not a place any sane person wants to be. What a prisoner receives in the hole is torture, cruel and abusive treatment, most all of the time. The BOP violates the law in a consistent manner in their operations of the hole at all prisons. How the BOP operates the hole; review The Hole, Torture, Violations Of Law And Death.
  7. Once the prisoner has been indoctrinated and released from the hole, the prisoner will be placed into a Federal prisoner housing unit. High security prisoners usually have 2 man cells. Fights, stabbings are not abnormal in High Security prisons as this writer has been advised. Medium security prisons seem to be the Federal prisoners' choice of prisons, other than prison camps. In a Medium Security prison there is usually 1 bunk bed for 2 prisoners in each cell. Although there have been inmates who have advised this writer the BOP has started putting 3 prisoners in these tiny 2 man cells. There is little to no screaming and yelling in the BOP medium prisons and a little privacy is allowed.
    1. The BOP's Low Facility prisons are for the most part a total disaster. The majority of Low Security BOP prisons are overcrowded to such a point that diseases are spread rapidly. Fights are the norm. The food for the most part is close to inedible, and in some cases is not edible. The laws which the legislature passed for the BOP to follow are just words on a piece of paper; as the BOP makes their own laws, in opposite of the legislature's laws, discrimination, cruel and abusive treatment, along with the BOP estopping a prisoner's access to the Federal courts, is standard operating procedure in the BOP.
  8. The BOP retaliates almost immediately when a prisoner files a legitimate complaint against the BOP, or BOP staff member. If a prisoner needs to get in touch with his attorney regarding his case; most BOP prisons will refuse the needed legal call.
  9. A prisoner must work in Federal prison. A prisoner's average pay is between 15 to 20cents per hour, except if a prisoner works in one of the BOP sweatshops (UNICOR). In UNICOR an inmate usually makes between 20 and 50 cents an hour for 40 - 50 hours of work per week. More about UNICOR review The BOP Sweatshops (UNICOR).
  10. The BOP food in general is not the type of food anyone could purchase anywhere. A good deal of the food is outdated and cannot legally be sold to the public. Food poisoning is just about a daily occurrence in most BOP prisons. In many prisons, fresh vegetables do not exist. Fruit is served on a rare occasion. When fruit is served most of it has been frozen, rotten from the inside out, and dried up. Most of the meats like cold cuts even smell bad. The first time this writer ever saw green meat in cold cuts was at Yazoo Low Prison in Yazoo, Mississippi. Rice and beans were a standard diet at Yazoo Federal prison. Fresh fruit is a rarity. Fresh vegetables appeared twice in the two years this writer was at Yazoo. A thin slice of tomato was given every Wednesday at Yazoo, while lettuce served for a year and a half, was iceberg only, no green lettuce at all. Salt is served sporadically at Yazoo and must be placed on food with the prisoner's fingers, while pepper has become extinct at Yazoo. More about Yazoo is depicted under One Of The Very Worst Known Torture And Death Camps.
